Extremal bipartite graphs with high girth

چکیده
Let us denote by EX (m,n; {C4, . . . , C2t}) the family of bipartite graphs G with m and n vertices in its classes that contain no cycles of length less than or equal to 2t and have maximum size. In this paper the following question is proposed: does always such an extremal graph G contain a (2t + 2)-cycle? The answer is shown to be affirmative for t = 2, 3 or whenever m and n are large enough in comparison with t. The latter asymptotical result needs two preliminary theorems. First we prove that the diameter of an extremal bipartite graph is at most 2t, and afterwards we show that its girth is equal to 2t + 2 when the minimum degree is at least 2 and the maximum degree is at least t + 1.

The distinguishing chromatic number of bipartite graphs of girth at least six
The distinguishing number $D(G)$ of a graph $G$ is the least integer $d$ such that $G$ has a vertex labeling with $d$ labels that is preserved only by a trivial automorphism. The distinguishing chromatic number $chi_{D}(G)$ of $G$ is defined similarly, where, in addition, $f$ is assumed to be a proper labeling. We prove that if $G$ is a bipartite graph of girth at least six with the maximum ...
متن کاملProperties of Certain Families of 2k-Cycle-Free Graphs
Let v = v(G) and e = e(G) denote the order and size of a simple graph G, respectively. Let G = {Gi}i≥1 be a family of simple graphs of magnitude r > 1 and constant λ > 0, i.e. e(Gi) = (λ+ o(1))v(Gi), i→∞. For any such family G whose members are bipartite and of girth at least 2k + 2, and every integer t, 2 ≤ t ≤ k − 1, we construct a family G̃t of graphs of same magnitude r, of constant greater ...

For any prime power q ≥ 3, we consider two infinite series of bipartite q–regular edge–transitive graphs of orders 2q and 2q which are induced subgraphs of regular generalized 4–gon and 6–gon, respectively. We compare these two series with two families of graphs,H3(p) andH5(p), p is a prime, constructed recently by Wenger ([26]), which are new examples of extremal graphs without 6– and 10–cycle...
متن کاملAbout the catalog of (3, g) Hamiltonian bipartite graphs
A catalog of a class of (3, g) graphs for even girth g is introduced in this paper. A (k, g) graph is a graph with regular degree k and girth g. This catalog of (3, g) graphs for even girth g satisfying 6 ≤ g ≤ 16, has the following properties. Firstly, this catalog contains the smallest known (3, g) graphs. An appropriate class of trivalent graphs for this catalog has been identified, such tha...
متن کاملLarge Subgraphs without Short Cycles
We study two extremal problems about subgraphs excluding a family F of graphs. i) Among all graphs with m edges, what is the smallest size f(m,F) of a largest F–free subgraph? ii) Among all graphs with minimum degree δ and maximum degree ∆, what is the smallest minimum degree h(δ,∆,F) of a spanning F– free subgraph with largest minimum degree? These questions are easy to answer for families not...
